I will continue to hold sessions for childbirthing and basic infant care until every doctor, midwife, hospital and previous patient stops referring me. I will always schedule for a couple, prospective parent, grandparent, family member or friend who needs coaching, support, reassurance about what happens in labor and delivery and what to do for the first twelve weeks of an infant's life at home. I will see clients experiencing perinatal grief and loss, parenting issues or anything else pertinent or make appropriate referrals.
I will do this as I have for many, many years because there is a need. If there weren't, the phone wouldn't ring, emails would stop coming and I would be grieving for all the missed opportunities to teach, counsel, encourage and reassure all those people who believe they would like to know what to expect from labor, delivery and the first few months of their baby's life.
We are a species of mammal that is granted the gift of freewill and has the intelligence to want to know what every new experience is going to be like. We believe that if we are prepared, the way will be smoother and the oucome may be different or even better. We hate to go blindly into the unknown and are greatly reassured when we can be forewarned of potential problems or situations.
The birthrate may flounder. It will rise and fall the way it always has. However if there is one couple or prospective parent, etc. out there who needs more education or support, I will continue to do what I love to do. Ready Birth will be around for a long, long time.
